5 tricks to help you drink more water daily!

We all know how important it is for our bodies, minds, and souls to drink enough water – but it can be so hard to remember to do it! Below you’ll find my favorite hacks and tips for reminding myself to drink water regularly throughout the day so I stay hydrated all day long!

Water and our wellbeing

I feel like one of the most common #wellnessgoals everyone has is to drink more water. We hear endlessly about the benefits of drinking enough water – everything from weight loss, to increased energy, to preventing headaches and other body pain. We KNOW that drinking water is good for us, so why can’t we get ourselves to drink as much as we should?!

Probably because water can be pretty boring and it’s easy to forget to drink it when we’re busy (or if we just LOVE coffee so we can’t fathom drinking anything but that). But since we know there are SO many benefits of drinking water, and since the side effects of not drinking enough water can be pretty damaging in our day-to-day lives, I wanted to list some hacks that have worked for me over the years in helping me reach my water intake goals!

Here are 5 easy things you can do to help you drink more water daily (and that I personally swear by!):

1. Mark your water bottle (and get a reusable clear one)!

I  have tried all kinds of water bottles, and the ones that help me drink water most consistently are clear ones, so I can visually see how much water I actually have left to drink. But, the most effective way I’ve found to motivate myself to drink water is to actually mark my water bottle with time increments (I have 11am, 2pm, and 5pm on my clear water bottle that I keep on my desk at work). This hack has helped SO much because it’s a physical reminder that I need to drink a certain amount of water by a certain time. You can also buy pre-marked bottles with times written on them, too!

2. Drink sparkling water or infused water.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE La Croix (despite the recent PR issues they’ve been going through). Drinking sparkling water is definitely more expensive than drinking regular water, but if you feel you can afford it and it would incentivize you to drink more water if your water is sparkly and comes in a pretty package – then do it! I love sparkling water, and though it does take a little getting used to at first if you normally drink sugary drinks, it’s a GREAT healthy substitute if you’re a die-hard soda drinker.

3. Bring a water bottle with you wherever you go.

This may seem like a “no, duh,” but it really helps! Always bring a bottle with you in your bag, in the car, etc. Now that I drink water more regularly, I get so mad at myself when I forget to bring my water bottle somewhere. Just having a water bottle with you when you’re on the go can really help motivate you to drink more!

4. Skip the coffee until later in the morning and drink water first.

I know, I know. This is practically blasphemy for us coffee-lovers. Start the morning without my coffee?! Impossible! But, I noticed that when I started drinking coffee earlier in the morning (I have to be at work by 8am), I would drink more coffee during the day. And I kept hearing over and over how important it is to start your day with water and not coffee, so I decided to try something – I would drink a full glass of water in the morning on the way to work and during my first hour in the office, and I would allow myself to make coffee at 9am instead of immediately when I got to work. This has worked insanely well for me! Not only have I been fine without coffee for a few hours, I now see it as a reward that I look forward to getting at 9am. And I drink more water in the earlier hours of the day. Win win!

5. Set reminders on your phone or track your water intake with an app.

Yes, there’s an app for that! (There are apps for literally everything now, amirite?) I’ve never used an app to track my water intake, but here are some I found that do just that. If you don’t want to use an app, just set reminders on your phone to go off every few hours!

What are your favorite ways of reminding yourself to drink more water? Stay hydrated, friends!

Xoxo, Melina
